by Salama Mohamed , Founder & CEO, Peacefull Skincare has taken the beauty industry by storm, with new products and trends popping up left, right, and center. But with so many options available, navigating the skincare world successfully can take time. In addition, most people need to realize the importance of using skincare products specially designed for them. There’s simply no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution for taking care of your skin. Skin type, tone, condition, lifestyle, and even climate all play a significant role in determining what your skin needs to look and feel its best.
With skincare, it’s essential to consider your environment and climate. For example, dry and dusty environments can leave your skin dehydrated and flaky. At the same time, humid weather can cause your skin to feel oily and congested, so you must incorporate skincare products that work for these conditions. Using products not specifically formulated for your environment can worsen your skin’s condition, wasting time and money.
Packaging is also another factor to consider in skincare products. For example, have you ever bought a face wash or moisturizer only to find discoloration or received your online order warm to the touch? Hence the importance for region-specific skincare products to have the corresponding packaging to ensure the contents are protected from the climate. These may involve using materials that insulate against heat or incorporating designs that minimize exposure to air, which can cause oxidation or contamination. At Peacefull, our products go through what we call a skincare bootcamp, where they sit within a 50-degree chamber for three months to ensure they can endure sun-baked conditions of the Middle East without a change in the formulas.
I always tell the story of how Peacefull was born out of necessity, as I know how it feels not to be at peace with your skin. Growing up in the region and having been blessed with many skin conditions, including sensitive skin and vitiligo, I found that many skincare products available in the market didn’t meet my (and so many others) skin needs. This realization fueled my passion for creating bespoke products that address the specific factors pertinent to the Middle East climate.
Creating skincare products tailored to specific regions is crucial in providing consumers with targeted and effective solutions and the key to unlocking a more personalized and authentic skincare experience. As the skincare and beauty industries expand into different regions worldwide, we must consider the factors that make each place and its residents unique, especially the climate conditions. I cannot stress the importance of designing region-specific skincare products enough; if the fashion industry can do it, so should we!
